Press RoomThe Memorial Tournament Goes Green With FirmGreen®
Dublin, Ohio - June 3, 2009 – Tournament officials announced today that the Memorial Tournament has initiated a major Green effort for 2009 and beyond. The Memorial has partnered with FirmGreen, a Green industry expert, to help manage its green efforts and with SWACO, The Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio, for all of its recycling and waste management needs. “The Memorial has worked hard over the past couple of years to understand how to best dispose of the nearly 100 tons of waste it generates per year,” said executive director Dan Sullivan. The Tournament recognizes its responsibility to the central Ohio community to keep the environment safe and clean. Together with FirmGreen and SWACO, a plan is now firmly in place to produce Green results that everyone can be proud of.” “FirmGreen Energy, Inc. is thrilled to partner with the Memorial Tournament to provide cleaner energy and fuel, so fans and players can enjoy world class professional golf while the environment is protected,” said Steve Wilburn, CEO of FirmGreen, Inc. “We are supplying biodiesel for power generation during the Tournament. Fans who take the ‘FirmGreen Shuttle’ from the Columbus Zoo parking lot to Muirfield Village Golf Club will be riding a bus that runs on compressed biogas – or CNG, a clean biofuel produced from landfill gas at the local SWACO landfill.” Compressed natural gas derived from landfill gas was recently found by Argonne National Laboratory to be the cleanest fuel commercially available on the planet. “SWACO is excited to add the Memorial Tournament to our lineup of sports venues,” says SWACO Executive Director Ron Mills. “We know golf fans appreciate the environment around them and we see our effort in partnership with FirmGreen as a natural fit. This opportunity will expand SWACO’s educational outreach to the people of Central Ohio as we talk to them about the importance of recycling and managing our environment for the benefit of all.” As a function of the Tournament’s Green initiative, recycling receptacles will now be available on the entire property at Muirfield Village Golf Club. Additionally, all generators for the Memorial will use biodiesel fuel and the FirmGreen Shuttle will run on compressed biogas – or CNG, a clean biofuel produced from landfill gas at the local SWACO landfill. As a final piece to the Tournament’s green effort in 2009, all signage and trash bags used for the Memorial Tournament will be made from biodegradable materials. -------------------------- FirmGreen® is a privately held, integrated energy company participating in virtually all aspects of the global green energy business.
